Strong Start Parent Leadership Training

OCDD is seeking applications to host local trainings to develop self-advocate and parent leaders!

We envision a world where all people are welcomed and valued as contributing members of their communities. We work towards this idea by engaging with self-advocates and family members as leaders to advance social and policy change. Social and policy change is most effective when it is created in partnership with people experiencing disability and their families.

To this end, the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities (OCDD) is launching the Strong Start Leadership Training, a locally focused leadership training for self-advocates and parents of children experiencing intellectual/developmental disability (IDD).

Strong Start prepares these leaders to:

  • Develop a positive vision for their own or their child’s future;
  • Engage personal networks and available community resources in pursuit of that vision; and
  • Advocate effectively to influence social and policy change so that all people with disabilities have access to a full community life
