A quarterly newsletter produced by and for self advocates. "The voice of self advocacy in Oregon." Published by Self Advocates As Leaders.
The Oregon Perspectives
The new magazine produced to inform readers about issues of interest and importance to Oregonians with DD and their families, and will provide readers with timely, useful information.
The Oregon
Clarion
This former newspaper served as "a voice for Oregonians with developmental
disabilities and their families." The Council's primary communication
tool used to provide the developmental disabilities community with useful
information and analysis of major public policy issues.

A history of the Fairview Training Center and the institutionalization of people with developmental disabilities in Oregon.
Embracing Diversity: A Strategic Plan to Develop
and Promote Cultural Competencies within the Oregon Developmental Disabilities
Council (September, 1999)
Includes objectives, implementation strategies and expected outcomes
for the plan, as well as background information on cultural competence,
guidelines for being inclusive, human relations glossary and a guide
for preferred and disfavored terms for racial and ethnic identity.
Open Hearts, Open Doors: A Child Care Provider's
Guide to Inclusive Child Care
This pamphlet offers information on the benefits of inclusion,
tips for serving children with special needs in child care, ideas for
working with parents and others on the child's team, and resources for
additional information. Open Hearts, Open Doors was developed in partnership
with the Oregon Commission for Children and Families and Oregon's Map
to Inclusive Child Care Team.
A Foundation for Quality Assurance of Community
Services for Oregonians with Developmental Disabilities
(May, 1997)
A discussion paper intended to stimulate thought and discussion on Oregon's
quality assurance system for community services.
Families Speak! (Spring,
1995)
A report on a joint effort by the Oregon Health Division, Oregon Commission
on Children and Families and the Council to involve low income and special
needs families as partners in planning for state services. Limited supply.
Guide to Educating Policy Makers
(1995)
A handbook on how to educate legislators and other policy makers. Includes
information on legislative advocacy tools, the legislative process,
state budget process and much more. A second version, A Self Advocate's
Guide to Educating Policy Makers, is also available. Produced by
the Community Partnerships Project.
A Roadmap to Support Services, 2nd edition (2006)
A guide to help understand and access Support Services.
Medicaid and Long-Term Services & Supports
for Oregonians with Developmental Disabilities: Recommendations for
a Preferred Future (May, 1996)
This sixteen page paper includes an overview of Medicaid services and
supports in Oregon, recommendations for guiding principles for systems
change, and recommended elements for a future service system. A five
page Executive Summary is also available.
Supported Employment for Oregonians with Developmental Disabilities: Recommendations for Action (November, 2005)
Supported employment, a strategy for assisting individuals with disabilities to obtain and maintain employment by providing needed support to insure success, has been a model for employment services since the early 1980’s. Implementation of supported employment services within Oregon has fluctuated, from being a national leader in the late 1980’s, to a decline in services presently.
This paper explores strategic actions that might be taken, desired outcomes, policy implications and strategic opportunities to consider, as well as potential lead and partner agencies.
